Oppai Day

$

Its August the 1st in Japan now which means its Oppai Day. The reason being is that today's date is written as 08/01. "0" = "O", "8" = "pa", "1" = "i" =total being "O(p)pai". And here is your sauce.
"8" is "pa" because it comes from "ha" as in "hachi".

And to celebrate Oppai Day, Mirai-chan shows us her Miracle Mirai stripes - illustration by DMYO.

Incidentally, tomorrow is Pantsu Day. Reason is that 8/2 would be pronounced as "8" = "pa" and "2" as "tsu" ="pantsu". Sauce from Google sensei.

Love Plus Photo Club

Am thrilled to announce that Konami is now using Mirai Gaia - Chris and I launched the Love Plus Photo Club community website today where you can posts photos of all 3 of your girlfriends if their names are Rinko, Manaka or Nene. Was a challenging launch as we did a lot of work while I was at Anime Expo ^^;

Konami join King Records, Kadokawa, Good Smile Company, Bushiroad, Ascii Media Works, Sega and more in using our Mirai Gaia platform.

This photo taken at the Konami HQ in Roppongi - together with the other members of the Konami team who we worked with to launch the site. The Konami lady is cute so I asked her to be in the photo ^^;

This is the top page which has the familiar Mirai Gaia look and feel - although Konami wanted square corners instead of the rounded ^^;

The design was by Robert Tolton who hails from the UK. I discovered his cool design work from his postings at Figure.fm and decided to hire him as our remote designer. Remember - if you got talents that you want to make use of then share them!

To use the site you need a Twitter account and a Konami ID to log in. Once you are in you would post photos of your girlfriends which show up on the left column. The right column shows popular posts based on how many favorites they got.

This is the Love Plus Colorful Clip arcade machine where you can print photos of your girlfriend wearing as much or less as you want - posing how you want. The machine will then print that photo our for you to enjoy by yourself or share with others on the site.

This is an example of a detail page with a photo shared by one of the members who registered today. The site is still undergoing many updates that we will roll out over time.

And this is the top page of the arcade game plugging our new baby. Look forward to working on more Konami projects. Snake, Snaaaaaaaaaake!

As mentioned in yesterdays Oppai Day post, today is Pantsu Day in Japan. Reason is that 8/2 would be pronounced as "8" = "pa" and "2" as "tsu" ="pantsu". Sauce from Google sensei. Just thought it was important to share this vital piece of information with you.

And to celebrate today's event Xeph from Collateral Damage Studios have come up with his most awesome Oppai X Pantsu Day Combo illustration of our Mirai-chan.

My fave pantsu illustration is by DMYO >

Onagawa

Currently in a small port town called Onagawa. This town has been completely devastated by the tsunami.

It's hard to believe what happened here.

I'm covering the relief efforts of the volunteer group Peace Boat in the areas most affected by the tsunami. While the earthquake did do structural damage, most was caused by the tsunami.
In these photos you can see a whole concrete building which was uprooted by the tsunami.

You can also see a 5 story building here which the tsunami reached.

A lot of the debris has been removed and all that remains here is to dismantle the rest of the buildings that remain and clean up the roads.

There is a foul stench of rotten fish in some areas but heard that it was even worse just after the tsunami.

I've got no internet connectivity where I'm staying so am posting these few photos from the iPhone for now and will tell you the full story of events that happened here and talk more about the volunteer efforts when I get back to Tokyo.

Haruhi Tanabata

Photos taken at the Sendai Tanabata festival which has been taking place since last Saturay - the last day is today! Am preparing a post on the festivities but wanted to share these Haruhi Tanabata decoratons first. At the festival, 3000 of these Fukinagashi [吹き流し] streamers are displayed around the many shopping arcades near Sendai station.
These Haruhi ones however were the only anime themed ones on display this year.

Most fukinagashi are hung from bamboo like this. The day before the festival begins, one can see the large bamboo with smaller bamboo hanging from strings.

The Tanabata festival is also a time to make a wish and Kadokawa have been collecting wishes from folks around the world at their Haruhi Negai site.

From Wikipedia

Tanabata (七夕, meaning "Evening of the seventh") is a Japanese star festival, originating from the Chinese Qixi Festival. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively). According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar. The date of Tanabata varies by region of the country, but the first festivities begin on July 7 of the Gregorian calendar. The celebration is held at various days between July and August.

The fukinagashi represent the strings that Orihime used to weave.

And here are the messages - over 30,000 collected so far.

Spoke to two ladies taking photos of the Haruhi fukinagashi - the lady in the blue yukata is an anime fan who is very in the loop with the latest titles including Mayo Chiki and Twin Angel ^o^

More from the Tanabata festival in a separate post and you'll be able to experience what went on in the second season of Culture Japan.

Madoka Kaname

Was at the Good Smile Company offices earlier this evening to go over some nitty gritty for the second season of Culture Japan - looks like we will be doing some Madoka Magica stuff ^o^

But the only thing I can talk about for now without having my spleen cut out is that this 1/8 scale figure of Madoka Kaname will be up for pre-order tomorrow!

Folks who are looking to pre-order should keep their mince pieces on any of the following trusted online figure retailers.

http://jlist.com

http://hlj.com
http://archonia.com
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/
http://kidnemo.fm
http://hobbystock.jp
http://www.toylet.net/

I was at the GSC office's for meetings and filming but didn't know I was going to end up with such a gorgeous figure to take photos of - thus I had to make use with what I had which was the 7 - 14mm wide angle Lumix lens. I set the camera to 2X digital zoom to get the bokeh in the background. Had to use Lightroom to remove some of the noise and sharpen up the photos.

Decent photos can be seen at Mikatan Blog in English or Japanese.

And this is Mikatan's desk with a load of goodies on it.

And what do we have here?! Keep your minces on Mikatan Blog to find out more.

Something that I get asked a lot that I generally don't know the answer to (as I live in my own house) is "what is a good hotel to stay while in Tokyo".
If you could share your recommended places (and why) to stay then that would be great! How much did it cost? Do they have decent internet access? Also, are there places to avoid? Do include links for your fellow comrades too.

This photo of Saber at a hotel that we stayed in - outside Tokyo though ^^

Ishinomaki Tsunami

$

Continuing with the coverage from ground zero at Ishinomaki 5 months after the Tohoku Kanto Earthquake. This Google Map shows Kadonowaki-cho and the Minamihama-cho area - as you can see, most of it was destroyed by the tsunami which traveled 600 meters inland at about 10 meters high.
The earthquake alone shifted the whole city Southeast and lowering it by about 1.2 meters which now causes floods in some areas at high tide.

Today we continue to look at the damage and in the next post we will look at how the volunteer group Peace Boat are helping the locals.

Video below taken just after the tsunami. The word "Kaimetsu" [壊滅] that you hear in the news report means "total destruction" or "annihilation" and is a term that one would have heard regularly on the news during March.

As previously mentioned in the Onagawa post, Google Maps show the post tsunami satellite images but the Street Views still show what it looks like from 2009. Here we have a cozy corner of the neighborhoods...

...which has transformed into a wasteland.

Another view of the same corner...

..which now looks like this.

A restaurant and a book shop as it was before March 11th.

And this is what it looks like now.

A small 3 story factory.

Many buildings caught fire from oil which leaked from the many factories - oil was carried on the surface of the tsunami.

A small restaurant to the left of this Street View...

...ripped apart by the tsunami. The Japanese term "Tsume-ato" [爪痕] literally means the marks left behind by claws and is used to refer to damage caused by disasters.

This road heading towards the West of the city...

...now looks like this.

This was what Kadonowaki Elementary school looked like.

And this is what it looks like now. Not only was it destroyed by the tsunami, the oil from the factories caused a fire which burnt out half of the school. Fortunately, most of the children managed to escape.

There was another school however which wasn't so fortunate where 74 of their 108 students and 10 of the 13 teachers lost their lives to the tsunami.

This small apartment and the surrounding area...

...reduced to this.

This whole residential area filled with about 700 houses...

Completely wiped out. There is talk among the authorities that they will make this into a huge park.

We visited a factory that manufactures canned fish. Cans from the factories were scattered all over Ishinomaki. While the labels on most of the cans were washed off, the contents were deemed edible so the Peace Boat folks have been collecting and cleaning the cans. The cans are being sold where the money is being used for the recovery efforts.

Some of the folks who worked in the factory.

The smell in this place is unbearable but I was told that it was even worse shortly after the tsunami. The smell comes from the rotting fish which were left behind from the tsunami. Folks who were working to clean up could only stay in the area for a while before getting a headache from the stench.
I got a headache too after we spent 20 mins in the area.

Some more recovered cans.

Most of the tsunami affected areas are predominantly in the fishing industry. Many have lost their jobs due to damage to the factories which are usually by the shore. Damage not only to the factories but to the boats too.

Pretty much all the roads in Ishinomaki were clogged up with debris after the tsunami. The locals have done an incredible job to clear up most of the roads. There are several huge dumping grounds just filled with debris.

After the tsunami, cars were literally all over the place - many left on top of buildings too.

All cars were collected and stored in 3 locations around Ishinomaki. The number plate/type of car/location found is all noted down. Folks who have lost their car go to one of the ward centers in Ishinomaki and are told where their vehicle is. Some folks come to check their car but most just leave it here...

None of these cars can be disposed of due to legal reasons. Even due to such circumstances, disposing of somebodies car rubs the wrong way with the law thus these vehicles have to be kept here until an owner claims or allows the authorities to dispose of it.

I just could not believe how mangled the cars were.

Many folks were still in their cars when the tsunami came. The video below was filmed by a man in his car which shows how the tsunami came along to wash his car away. You can see folks who got on top of their cars too.

While most Japanese folks were calm and well behaved, there was some looting going on. While I was in Ishinomaki, I would regularly see patrol cars going around the blocks. This storage area for the cars had security guards too.

Many cars were sprayed with marks to let others know that they have been searched for survivors/bodies.

This photo taken from Hiyoriyama Park [日和山公園] which is on high ground. Many folks who escaped up here described the tsunami that engulfed the city as "the black mountain is coming" [黒い山が来る]

The small building to the left of the photo drifted with the tsunami and landed in the middle of this car park.

I wasn't sure if it was appropriate or not to drive our Mirai Itasha to Tohoku. But its the only car we have and renting one didn't make sense. We found that the locals love it though ^^;
A certain amount of folks believe that Japan should keep on sulking in despair after the tsunami which does not help Japan to recover at all. This is one of the reasons why the locals have decided to carry on with the Summer festivals to cheerup and get the community back on its feet. The day before we arrived there was a festival in Ishinomaki where money raised is being used for the relief efforts.

The building with the yellow sign is a chemist which drifted from somewhere or other.

This building has a sign on the door noting that it has been searched for survivors/bodies.

Some roads remain submerged after sinking from the earthquake.

Culture Japan Season 2 will feature a "Ganbare Nippon" [頑張れ日本] (Stay strong Japan) special which will be split into 2 episodes.

Next up we will be covering the relief efforts by the Peace Boat volunteer group.

A Week in Tokyo 68

$

Today we cover life in Tokyo since I got back from Los Angeles. Awaiting me back in Tokyo was a hideous amount of work that piled up during my 3 week absence ^^;
Currently in the middle of Culture Japan Season 2 production. Last time I directed and presented on the show but this time round I'm trying my dab hand at being a Producer too. I'm also learning the ropes as a cameraman for episodes where Mirai-chan is guiding you around Japan.

I edited a few episodes for Season 1 but this time round I'm going to try to edit the whole of season 2. I know I'm biting off much more than I can chew but its the best way to learn and by doing so, hopefully I'll be able to take the traditional TV production processes that were taught to me and streamline them which should make Season 3 even easier to produce. That's the theory anyway ^^;

First photo - at the design studios of Noriaki Miyata [宮田典昭] - an industrial architect who also does work for Good Smile Company, Kotobukiya and a load of other companies which I'm supposed to keep hush hush. I forgot the name of this equipment but you may have seen it before on my previous visits to the Good Smile Company offices. It enables the designer to feel objects as s/he pulls and prods - quite amazing ^^

Ah, nearly forgot to mention - was late replying to your comments on the A Week in Tokyo 67 but have just done so now ^^;;

The lovely Elly Otoguro. We met at the beginning of last year and have been working on bits n bobs ever since. And yes - she will be in Culture Japan Season 2 as my assistant ninja. Elly-chan below advertising the latest in flying bicycles.

Miyata-san looked familiar and it wasn't until he mentioned it when I realized that he was featured in Otacool 3 ^^;

Miyata-san can make virtually anything with his know-how and contacts. He makes a load of cars and does many of the Good Smile Racing models.

Met up with Miyata-san though Elly's friends in the fashion world but I didn't know that I was already connected to him via Good Smile and Kotobukiya - tis a small world!

Miyata-san has done very well for himself - this is the view from his studio apartment. He gets to say the "that's my Tokyo Tower. Wahahahahahahaha" [俺の東京タワーだ。わははははははは。] Tis a Japanese joke desu.

There was some research somewhere saying that folks who are exposed to such a view of a city are inspired to be their own boss. Are you exposed to such a view regularly and do you aim to be your own boss?
Maybe it worked on me as I had the same view at Amazon and Microsoft ^^;

Tokyo has a lot of parks. One creepy reason mentioned on TV was that the parks were needed in the event that something bad happens to Tokyo...

July was the month when Mirai-chan made her anime debut as a guest in the TV anime series Twin Angel. She will also be in the current anime series Mayo Chiki too! Details in an up n coming post.

Tea tastes better in a German beer bug - because you get to have loads in one cup ^^;

Softbank now have this pocket WiFi product called Ultra WiFi which gives you 42Mbps up and down. Probably because there is an Ultraman inside. Costs 3,880 yen per month for the service. Anything similar in your neck of the woods?

I love this - deep fried chicken on rice and costs under 500 yen.

Musashikoyama on a very hot Summers day.

Heading off to Makihari Messe for the Wonder Festival.

Our trusty carnavi guides the way.

Coverage of this Summers Wonfes listed up below.

At this Summers Wonfes, I worked with AmiAmi to hold a puchi Mirai-chan gallery of illustrations by some popular artists including Mikeo, Piromizu, Hagure Yuuki, Shirahane Nao (DMYO), Kobuichi, Choco Chip and Raemz.

Code Geass still going strong.

Tenpura set for dindins.

Its always great to meet up with readers from time to time. I'm trying to set up something regular once a month but need to find a restaurant first.

Whenever there is construction work on roads or houses that last for more than a few days, residents in the area will get a notice to say how long the work will go on for. In this case this notice even outlines the processes that will take place on the construction of the nearby houses - interior, exterior, roofing etc.
I love the attention to detail and thought that Japanese folks have for others.

Tea time!

Fish time!

Mosquito incense that we burn throughout the Summer.

Tis Summer time which means Yukata time - lovely but rather short Yukata tailored by Chun ^^;

BTW, the large banner poster of Mirai-chan you can see in the background is available at Kid Nemo for worldwide shipping.

The girls have been up to something while I'm not looking.

This weeks catch from the hole in the ceiling. Anything here tickles your wee fancy?
There is a poll embedded in this article.

Spent a week in Tohoku which was the most heavily affected by the earthquake and tsunami. All coverage so far listed up below with more to come.

Also spent some time in Sendai - the largest city in Tohoku. The annual Tanabata Festival took place as usual but as with many festivals - it was at risk of being cancelled as many thought that it wasn't appropriate to have fun.
Shortly after the earthquake, many folks and businesses went into self restraint mode which started to affect the economy as nobody was spending money. Japan would have ended up much worse off if they listened to the folks who believed that everybody should stay indoors and sulk.

Out n about in Yoyogi.

Yusen Seki [優先席] are seats at the end of each carriage that are reserved for the needed and elderly. If you are sitting near these seats then turn off your phone as they could affect folks with pacemakers.

One thing I like about Japanese trains - you get to have a drivers-eye view.

Some more anime titles get the Pachinko and Pachislot treatment.

More construction work going on with a sign which tells pedestrians how long work will last.

At the offices of Cybernoids - the folks who have technology that brings 2D to life - they responsible for apps like the iPhone Oreimo, Meruru and to-kin app. And yes - they are working on the Mirai-chan one as we speak ^o^

I never fail to think about my past when I eat Indian food.

With comrades at Cybernoids.

Changing trains at Shinjuku.

Getting my Yamanote line back to base.

Brekkie!

Kaiten Sushi [回転寿司] is the term used to refer to the conveyor belt style of sushi.

Recent office photo. Karin-chan is still nekkid as I haven't had time to dress her since I took her clothes with me to France ^^;

Running out of wall space for Mirai-chan posters.

If you are coming to Tokyo anytime soon then prepared to be cooked alive.

The lovely Yukina Kinoshita [木下優樹菜] advertising ToKoPo - a new system which allows you to earn points the more you use the metro - points are converted to yen which is then used to charge your Pasmo card again.
Yukina in action below for something totally different ^^;

Roughly translated as "If everybody stays strong/keeps fighting then Japan will most certainly recover".

Another visit to Roppongi.

What spots to you find beautiful?

The last visit to Konami before we launch!

Launched! The official Konami Love Plus Photo Club runs on Mirai Gaia. Konami join King Records, Kadokawa, Good Smile Company, Bushiroad, Ascii Media Works, Sega and more in using our Mirai Gaia platform.

I'm a transformers fan and loved 1 and 2 but 3 was... I'm not sure what it was ^^; Maybe I didn't get into it because I was still jet lagged in the US?

There is a poll embedded in this article.

Sushi dinner.

I just love Shirasu Gunkan [しらす軍艦]. Sushi wrapped in seaweed like this is called a Gunkan. If it is wrapped like a cone then its called Temaki [手巻き].

Necchusho [熱中症] means Heatstroke and many folks have been getting one this Summer. One of the reasons why more folks are getting heatstroke than usual is because everybody is still in the energy conservation mode. There is still a risk that there could be rolling blackouts due to the crippled nuclear reactor in Fukushima. Nobody wants a blackout so everybody does their best to save energy - at the cost of their health.

AKB48 Team A or Team K - which do you choose to be your classmates or colleagues?
There is a poll embedded in this article.

Try your dab hand at a lucky dip - 500 yen per shot where you get a chance to win goodies like a Nintendo 3DS - but will most likely win something like a plastic garden shovel instead.

Tokusen Fuji at Fujisoba.

Evening draws in around Musashikoyama.

More external meetings where I change trains at Shinjuku.

"Next, the world" - with the big boss of Bushiroad Takaaki Kidani. I want a cool looking globe too - think I'll nab one from Amazon.

Dindins with the Bushiroad folks at Higashi Nakano before they move offices.

Salarymen relax after a hard days work with some beer and yakitori.

Train drivers eye view who checks for the all clear before closing the doors.

At the studios of JC Staff. While Chinka is not really my personal project and out of my hands at this moment, Mirai Millennium *is* my project. I think that's all I can say for now ^^;

Lovely view of Musashi Sakai from the JC Staff studios.

I should be able to talk about what we are working on in a couple of weeks and hopefully have stuff to show you.

Cosy side road in Shibuya.

More Shibuya on a Summers day.

First time I that I went for a full health checkup where I had cameras shoved down my throat and up my botty. They found a few things which should be there ^^; But I'll talk about that in a different post.

Just noticed that wifey and I have long legs.

Tokyo Jobs - Ruby on Rails Developer

$

Now that I've got the PHP developers that I need, I'm now looking for Ruby on Rails developers who I can work with to increase our client base of otaku related companies. So far we've got:

http://goodsmile.info
http://bushiroad.fm
http://starchild.fm (King Records)
http://www.loveplusphotoclub.konami.jp (Konami)
http://mikufes.com (Sega)
http://tkmag.jp/ (Ascii Media Works)
http://twin-angel.tv (Kadokawa)
http://kidnemo.fm
http://figure.fm
http://doll.fm
http://tsubuyaku.fm
http://culturejapan.jp

And I think we got a few more but I forget ^^;

If you can speak Japanese, have a high level of Ruby and can work well with Chris (he makes the hiring decision) for an initial trial period of 3 months, I'll bring you to Japan and sponsor your visa. I'll pay for your ticket and hand you a months wages up front but you need to look for housing on your own - but that should be no problem as you can speak Japanese.

Unfortunately you need a university degree (any) as that's what the government requires to issue a work visa for Japan. I need somebody of the following description.

  • Has an online profile which proves that the candidate understands the importance of sharing.
  • Is a user of social media such as Facebook, Twitter and understands the API's needed to work with data from social media sites.
  • Has examples of previous Ruby on Rails projects online.
  • Has a web camera and can communicate online through videochat on Skype.
  • Can communicate on a high level of Japanese (read/speak).
  • Otaku preferred as I want somebody who can work on the contents that they love - anime, games, figures and manga.
  • "High level of Ruby on Rails" means just that - you are able to build any application given a functional spec.

If you fit this description then email me at jobs at mirai dot fm. I'll leave the format of the email to you but you already understand what I'm looking for so you should be able to provide me with the info that I need. I do need to see samples of code that you have written however.

Folks who cant speak Japanese but think they are a dab hand at Ruby on Rails should still contact me for remote work. I'll pay you during our trial period and we can decide after if we should pursue a long term working relationship. Salary is based on level of skills. I say "our" trial period because its not just me deciding whether I want to work with you - you are also deciding whether you want to work with me ^^

Please share this with folks around you. If you introduce somebody to me who ends up as a full time employee then I'll pay you 1000 USD via paypal as your referrer fee. This position is for immediate hire but I can wait for folks who need to tie up ends in their current country of residence.

As for the Moekana illustration - its "Ru" [る/ル] for "ルビー" - pronounced "ru-bi-" meaning "Ruby". Mirai-chan has found her ruby and now I'm looking for mine.

BTW - just like I learned all my programing skills from Google Sensei (and Japanese through self study) - Chris learned all his skills including Ruby from Google Sensei too. Its never too late to start learning. Don't learn stuff because you *have* to at school or work - learn stuff because you *want* to and do so *in your own time*.

Bushiroad Office Tour

You've seen a tour of the Bushiroad offices and also seen photos that I've taken during meetings in the A Week in Tokyo series but today is the last you will see of it - well until I visit their new offices anyway ^^
Bushiroad are moving to bigger premises to keep up with their company expansion. Today I got a few wheelings n dealings with the boss and then wander around the office while I try not to get in the way of everybody packing.

First photo - getting off at Higashi Nakano station heading to their offices. Apparently the Chuo line has a high rate of suicide attempts.

Hibiki is in the same building as Bushiroad. They are a radio production and seiyuu management company too.

Vanguard looks like its on its way to become one of the most popular card games in Japan.
Some Vanguard anime action below.

And here is some of the card game in action.

Kuroneko Yamato is the most reliable delivery service in Japan but also generally more expensive than the rest. Another popular delivery service is Sagawa but as you are paying less for the service, they don't go out of their way to deliver on time which reduces their costs.

All delivery companies have a service called Shuka [集荷] which is great - make a call and they will send somebody over to pick it up from your house - does not matter how little you have to send and they don't charge you extra for this service. I usually call up the post office and they usually send somebody around within a couple of hours.

(very rough translation) "These unclaimed items were found on the 4th floor. Please take the items that you know belongs to you. If you dont want these items anymore then leave it on the 'please take and keep' shelf"

Looks like somebody left an empty figma Nanoha box lying around - anybody want it?

I'll be filming with one of the Milky Holmes girls this Sunday in Osaka where we will be having a tour of their Akihabara equivalent Nihon Bashi. Come along if you free!

Now you can visit Akihabara everyday with the PSP game Akiba Strip which seems to involve stripping people...

More PSP goodies with Shirokoi. Dont think this one involves stripping though unfortunately.

Load of seiyuu signed shikishi. Which ones do you recognize?

Aimi sings "Tenshi no clover" [天使のCLOVER] which is the OP for Astarotte no Omocha!

Off to dins dins and come across two dogs who start to sniff each others bottom. Would be interesting if humans done that.

I'll have some White Tan Tan Noodles.

Just as advertised - kinda ^^;

Some Mabo tofu on the side.

Bushiroad comrades.

Health Mouse Pad

Finally got round to making Mirai-chan's Oppai Mouse Pad but I've decided to call this product a "Health Mouse Pad" instead. Was initially going to license this out for other manufacturers to make but I've always wanted to learn how to make my own products and thought I'd start doing so with this.

Got 3 samples back from the factory for quality inspection.

Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) is a disabling illness caused by prolonged repetitive hand movements, such as those involved in computer use. Symptoms include intermittent shooting pains in the hands, wrists, forearms, and back.

Prolonged work in front of the computer may even cause ones wrists to break or even fall off, shrink, grow hair on palms or even grow extra fingers. Neither of these symptoms are desirable.

The supportive assets built into the mouse pad using Oppairatus Technology will support overworked wrists enabling a health working lifestyle and prevent unwanted symptoms.

Very pleased with the print quality.

Adorable illustration of Mirai by DMYO sensei (Nao Shirahane)

Includes parking space for mouse.

The supportive assets will enable folks to do twice as much work - good idea for bosses to buy for their employees.

Comparison with Nitroplus Sonico mouse pad. Did I mention Sonico and Mirai are good friends with each other?

Mirai Health Mouse Pad being tested in a real life working environment. Apart from preventing wrist breakage, there are many other ways that you can use this device.

All I need to do is design the box and send that in for printing. I have a distributor who will be distributing to all major outlets in Japan and across the world. Aim to have these ready for purchase next month. Will keep you updated!

Best Anime Opening

I'm useless at keeping secrets for too long so might as well talk about it now. I'm working with anime production studio JC Staff to breathe 2D life into our Mirai Suenaga. This work will be for the opening and ending of Mirai Millennium which I will initially use as the OP to Season 2 of Culture Japan.

JC Staff will be working on the animation and I will be working on the backgrounds, editing and sound mastering. You can see some of the backgrounds in the headers of the new design of the site that I hope you like - but its not finished yet and we are rolling out the changes in stages.

What I would like to ask is what are your fave anime OPs? Just want to get an idea of what you like and hopefully get some inspiration as I do the editing. There will be a scene where Mirai is walking as the background scrolls - Mirai with wavy hair and all. A few cuts of her in Summer uniform and some in her Solar Marine uniform too.

I'm currently getting a load of inspiration from the OP of Diebuster - one of my most fave anime OPs.

Do share your fave OP and ED with a link from YouTube pasted in the comments like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFQ5WGHpo48
If there are any particular inspirations that I use then I promise to stick your name in the credits ^^

There is a poll embedded in this article.

BTW, photo taken at the JC Staff studios the other day - tis of Mirai-chan in Twin Angel. Will show you how they make anime and got more nitty gritty than our last visit to Production IG.

Ah, and before I leave you - the following video is quite a laugh and a half which no doubt my anime opening will end up looking like too ^^;

Gamers

Was in Osaka last weekend filming for Culture Japan Season 2. One of the places we are covering is Otaroad - its Osaka's equivalent of Akihabara which is filled with otaku goodness and a load of 2D girlies absolutely everywhere!
The first place we take a look at is the Namba branch of Gamers.

Sunday morning 9:30AM. Meeting up with my cameraman and sound engineer to setup equipment before our guest arrives.

Gamers is located at the following location - saw a ton of gaijin in the area so if they can make their way around then so can you. Get there from Nanba station.
大阪市浪速区日本橋3-8-16
[gmap=34.66191, 135.505250]

There were a load of folks lining up to get in to get hold of their dose of 2D-girlism.

Bump into voice actress Suzuko Mimori and ask if she would take us around Otaroad.

Ready to raid Gamers.

In the midst of going through a ton of 2D-Girlism heaven.

If you are going however, make sure that you keep track of your cash and leave enough to make it back to your hotel - and for food if you really need to eat. Will leave you to wander around the rest of the shop - maybe make photo annotations of everything that you would buy?

Bumped into some readers from Canada and Hong Kong ^o^

Cushion is so cute - small enough to put between your...eyes.

ブシロードのカードがいっぱい!

An area setup for card players.

A ton of Bushiroad cards.

Trading Card Game accessories.

These boxes are meant for trading cards but I use them for business cards ^^

Gamers however do not have many figures in stock. The reason is that most consumers these days tend to pre-order.
How do you consume?
There is a poll embedded in this article.

Eroge corner.

A corner for the Milky Holmes girls.

Lovely girlies from Yuzu Soft illustrated by Kobuichi and Muririn. Kobuichi has done a doodle of our Mirai-chan which you may have seen at Wonder Festival.

Large corner filled with Tohou goodies.

The seiyuu corner.

3 Singaporeans and 1 Malaysian make it big in Japan and are singing anisong (ending theme for Vanguard) - Sea A.

I need something like this for my floors.

Artwork by DMYO who has already done a doodle for us for our Mirai-chan.

Black Rock Shooter the game out this week!

Artwork by Refeia-sensei who has also done a doodle for us of Mirai-chan.

Popular anime title Penguindrum.

Edible 2D girlies.

Will cover the rest of Otaroad in a separate post. In the meanwhile, more places to visit in Japan listed up below.

And more from Gamers and Suzuko-san in Culture Japan Season 2 ^o^

Osaka Namba

If you are planning a trip to Japan then you may want to try fitting in a visit to Osaka which is located roughly around the middle of Japan. We took a bullet train and got to Osaka from Tokyo in about 3 hours.

Despite rain for the two days that we were in Osaka last weekend, the bright colors and gorgeous store fronts are more than enough to help you forget about the rain. Osaka was hardly affected by the Tohoku Kanto Earthquake so there isn't really a movement or need to save electricity on this end of Japan which means that the place is generally much brighter than Tokyo.

Namba [難波] is the area that you'll want to explore when you reach Osaka which is home to the Shinsaibashi [心斎橋] indoor shopping mall which is just shy of 600 meters long. Also in Namba is Dotonbori [道頓堀] - a river which runs through Osaka that is filled with restaurants in the surrounding area. And then there is Otaroad (the equivalent of Akihabara) just around the corner which has stores like the most fab Gamers.

First thing to do is get off at Namba station [なんば駅]. Google Maps localize the reading to "Nanba" however.
[gmap=34.66653, 135.50025]

While walking along the Shinsaibashi shopping mall, you will come along Gari Gari Kun - say hello to him.

Shinsaibashi is filled with nearly everything you need - apart from otaku stuff but all you need to do is go around the corner to Otaroad for that.

Shinsaibashi got a contest running to collect cute girlies like Wakana Nakamura.

More of Wakana in action below.

This is the Dotonbori area which Shinsaibashi runs through.

Enough restaurants in the area to last you half a lifetime perhaps ^^;

This chap is Cui Daore Taro [くおだおれ太郎] - pretty much considered to be Osaka's mascot character.

Osaka has a load of interesting shop fronts to grab ones attention.

"Forbidden to leave your bicycle here"

I only discovered recently that I could take photos like this on the 7 - 14mm wide angle lens. All you need to do is set the camera to 2 x digital zoom. You need to reduce the noise and sharpen up the photo though but better than swapping lenses all the time.

I think I only managed to catch Season 2 of Prison Break. Was it on your watch list?

Porco Rosso out n about Osaka.

The Glico running man landmark.

Entrance to Hozenji [法善寺] - a small temple in Namba.

Namba really is a great place where you can experience the old rubbing along with the new.

Rilakkuma got new friends of late?! More friends = an increase in merchandise sales^^

Time to fillup after a day of exploring and filming.

Then in the evening its off to enjoy some traditional dance with some Bon Odori [盆踊り].

Heading to the hotel to checkin for a single night before a full day of filming for Culture Japan at Otaroad.
How many of you who have visited Japan been to Osaka?
There is a poll embedded in this article.

Playing around with Collage which I downloaded from the App store just now - quite a spiffy tool.

More places to visit written up in the photo posts below.

Dakimakura

Today, I try to seek as many practical uses as possible for a dakimakura cover (huggable pillow cover) starting with this example.
If you are planning on robbing a fictional bank (not recommended) then you may need something to cover up your face - the dakimakura is perfect for the job.

Before I continue, I must mention that many photos in this article are not safe for work unless you have a randy boss or colleagues who usually join you when you are looking at ecchi stuff during work hours (do you?)

Dakimakura

Thanks to comrades at HLJ for sending over this dakimakura cover of Sasara Kusugawa - 10,000 yen for the cover and you will need the pillow which costs 5,000 yen. The pillow is vacuum packed and comes flat but quite heavy.

Here we see an example of how to use a dakimakura for when you are feeling lonely - dinner time with Sasara. Dinner looks yummy too - Pretz and Pocky.

Dakimakura

And if you feel like having a romantic dinner then just flip round the dakimakura.

Dakimakura

Here we see Sasara-chan keeping my office chair warm while I'm out to lunch for a bit.

Dakimakura

Great to have in the office too to prevent people from snooping around your desk.

Dakimakura

Fed up of going for ronery drives? Sasara to the rescue. You can also use this technique for countries like the US who have carpools - two or more passengers are needed to use the fast lane.

Dakimakura

After living with your new dakimakura partner, you will need to give her a wash from time to time. You may want to be careful which side you have facing outwards in the case that you have narrow minded neighbors.

Dakimakura

Apart from washing your bottom, our toilet comes with a seat heater which helps prevent you jumping off the cold seat in the morning where poo would then fly all over the place.
Folks who don't have seat warmers can use your dakimakura to keep it warm.

Dakimakura

Sasara and friends. Never ronery.

Dakimakura

Sasara can be proactive in wanting to provide help to care for her owners health. The lines you see on her bod are the creases on the actual pillow and not the cover. I presume creases will flatten out after prolonged health care sessions?

Dakimakura

For those who get ronery playing Wii on their own - a dakimakura makes a great partner. You may find yourself winning all the time though.

Dakimakura

A dakimakura is also a great apparel accessory - being used here as a stylish belt.

Dakimakura

Tis the cold season now but thanks to the dakimakura, I have a stylish scarf to keep out the chilly wind.

Dakimakura

In some countries, it may be compulsory or fashionable to wear garnments over ones head - the dakimakura is the perfect accessory. Just make sure to wash it after health care sessions or your hair may end up tangled up, gooey and smelling of fish.

Dakimakura

A dakimakura can also be used as a door mat to greet guests to your house.

Dakimakura

But if you are expecting in-laws, you may want to use this side instead.

Dakimakura

Macro shot with the Lumix LX3. The material kind of feels warm n silky. Probably very kind on your pet dolphin.

Dakimakura

A dakimakura also makes a great evening dress for your Dollfie.

Dakimakura

Or you can use it as a pet sheet - remember to wash it before health care sessions or you will end up with pet pee and poo all over your body. probably end up with an itchy dolphin too.

Dakimakura

Thought I'd dig up some more acquired cloth girls - this huge silky bed sheet of the lovely Erika Sendo from Fortune Arterial.

Dakimakura

One of the nicest illustrations I've seen of her. Does anybody have an image of this? I've only seen the pose on this sheet.

Dakimakura

A king size silky bed sheet featuring the girls from Akaneiro ni somaru zaka.

Dakimakura

Takami Rin from Lyrical Lyric.

Dakimakura

Kasumi dakimakura from the eroge Kimihagu. This cover is really small though and didnt know they came in different sizes.

Dakimakura

Hmmm. Looks like she spilt some condensed milk on herself.
There is a poll embedded in this article.

Dakimakura

And a closer look at the Wild Cougar Beretta that we saw in the first photo.

Dakimakura

Picked this up many many moons ago when I wanted a Socom from playing too much Metal Gear Solid. Was all sold out at the time so got this instead ^^;
