If there is one place that you need to visit in Akihabara then that would be Hobby Tengoku - the Volks store located right outside Akihabara station.
Its filled with all of your hobby needs including Gundam's, Dolls, Figures and anime merchandise.

To get to Hobby Tengoku, just get off at Akihabara station Electric Town exit - but turn right after the ticket barriers and walk towards the main Chuo Dori street - you will see Hobby Tengoku on the right.

You are most probably familiar with the Anime Festival Asia brand by now - Asia's biggest Anime event which has taken place so far in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia and the next country is going to be <nyan nyan>

For those who can't for whatever reason attend AFA can enjoy a new show by the makers SOZO. The show is called WOW Japan and is uploaded regularly to the Tubes. The show focuses on Japanese entertainment, pop culture, trends and lifestyle in the SEA region.

My good comrade and cutie Valerie is the host of the show and produced by Leang Dzai Jim.

To stand a chance to win, contestants need to enter the cosplay competition - either as solo or as a pair. There are 2 free return tickets up for grabs - if a solo contestant wins - they get both pairs of tickets.

As announced by Lawson on their official Facebook Page, our Mirai Suenaga is now one of their mascot characters ^o^

This marks the start of a collaboration where we do coolsome stuff together. For starters, we get to go to their convenience stores and snap away at all the cool stuff they have lining the shelves.

Lawson is particularly strong in the Anime field and has done a load of collaboration with titles like Gintama, K-ON! and Madoka Magica.

The cute chicken that you see Mirai cuddling is Lawson's crispy chicken product called Karaage-kun [からあげクン] which they usually have by the counter.
In Japan its OK to have mascot characters of food ^^

Today we take a lookie at the Lawson located at Tokyo Big Sight's Kokusai Tenjijo Station [国際展示場駅]. After the ticket barriers, turn right and you should see a corridor leading to Lawson.

At the station you can grab a quick bite to eat at gyudon (beef bowl) chain Sukiya or soba chain Azumi.
I hear that some folks who come to Japan eat Sukiya everyday!

Magazines in each store are tailored to age and gender of customers.
Whenever you buy something in a Japanese convenient store - the till girl or boy pushes a button that represents your estimated age and gender.

They use this info to better tailor products for the people who use that branch most often.

Looks like this store is popular with Pachinko players judging from the amount of Pachinko magazines.

Japanese newspapers - how much of it can you understand? If the answer is "zero" then maybe start off with some Moekanji and Moekana.

Transparent umbrellas - even after the rainy season, we are getting sudden storms during the Summer.

The majority of folks in Japan don't usually buy a name plate until they buy a house - its rare that one would get one for their rented apartment because they would need to get permission from the landlord. Landlords generally don't permit residents to make any form of holes in the wall.

Many houses in Japan share the exact same address just like we do with our neigbour - the only difference between us and next door is our name - thus folks need to have a name plate outside the house to make sure the Dollfies get delivered to the correct parents. Name plates for houses are called "Hyosatsu" [表札].

When we first bought our house and was looking at the price of name plates, I was shocked to find that they generally cost more than 3 limbs. This "Nagashima" one for example costs 72,450 yen - for a name plate!

New houses generally don't come with a post box either so when we was looking for one I got the "You Wa Shock" treatment again when I discovered how much post boxes were - these ones cost 57,750 yen each!

After a while I realized why name plates cost so much. The mentality is such that:-
1. If folks can afford to pay so much for a house then folks should be willing to part with at least 1 limb or dolphin for a name plate.
2. Folks pay a lot for a house and want anything on the outside of it to look decent - so they should be willing to pay a lot for it.

This is a trend I notice about the Japanese market. Once a price has been set for a certain item or service then most manufacturers/sellers will follow suit and set their items at the market price.
I've spoken to a few comrades who run their own business making stuff and they are constantly trolled for trying to set a lower price for items in the market.

Are house name plates big business in your neck of the woods or do folks generally make their own/included with the house?

This is our front entrance. Decided to make our own name plate from a photo frame that I picked up from Muji for about 525 yen. All that was needed was a printout thrown together in Illustrator and two holes in the wall.

BTW, the sign on the postbox says "don't put in leaflets - there is a surveillance camera in operation and folks who stick in unwanted leaflets will have their face photo uploaded to the Internets."
Folks who live in Japan can tell a tale or two about the amount of leaflets they get daily - after I stuck this sign up however, the amount of leaflets has reduced to only a couple every few weeks ^^

Most of these have only been sold at events such as Anime Expo 2013 and Wonder Festival. If you want them then you need to be at CJC desu!
