Very interesting find thats been going around the Internets of late. The above painting is an Ukiyo-e [浮世絵] - Japanese woodblock prints produced between the 17 and 20th centuries. The above painting is said to be produced between 1797 and 1861 (source).
The interesting thing is the tall object in the left of the painting. Experts on Japanese history have stated that no tall constructions existed back at the time - could it be the painters prediction of the Tokyo Sky Tree that folks are speculating about?
Tokyo Sky Tree still under construction snapped earlier this year.
