They are a part of Japanese daily life and help us make decisions when choosing what to eat - plastic food samples! They are traditionally displayed in shop windows - shop owners would send in photos of their dishes to a factory where they are rendered in plastic form - plastic has never looked so tasty!
But did you know that you can buy then for yourself too? As part of the Japan Mode filming, we went to visit a shop called Maizuru in Kappabashi where folks like you and I can go along and buy some plastic food samples.
To get to Maizuru, get off at Asakusa on the Ginza or Asakusa line and walk to the following location.
東京都台東区西浅草1-5-17
Nishiasakusa 1-5-17, Taito-ku, Tokyo
[gmap=35.712225, 139.788625]
The Kappabashi area is filled with shops dedicated to kitchenware - great for those who cook and who run restaurants too.
*everything* you see in this shop is made of plastic!
How about a plate of fly lice? 6,300 yen
If you are a doll owner then this place is very dangerous - expect to leave with heavy damage to wallet-kun.
"Tokyo Sky Tree Tempura"
Felt so hungry after filming so dropped by Tokyo Sky Tree for some nom noms - and take a gander at more plastic food samples ^^;
Not food - but so cute that you want to eat it.
