Moekanji

Thanks to you, Moekana was an overnight success which sold out during the pre-order period leading to a second production run.
Through my own experience of learning Japanese, I wanted to make Japanese learning more fun and developed the Hiragana learning series called Moekana. Many of you asked for something to help you learn Kanji too - so here it is - Moekanji!
Kanji are the Chinese characters used in the Japanese language which you need to learn if you want to be proficient in lingo.

The Moe Japanese learning series fuses Japanese Moe culture together with education and contains just enough information for you to start learning. Moekanji will not teach stroke order nor will it come with a huge list of words that contains the kanji.
Moekanji is not meant to be a comprehensive learning tool as the cards will then just end up being filled with boring text which is not what I'm interested in developing - there are many other cards on the market that already fit that description.
The cards will continue to feature my mascot characters Mirai Suenaga, Haruka Suenaga and Kanata Hoshikawa adorably illustrated by Ikkyuu-sensei.

Here we have 2 work in progress mockups - the one with Mt Fuji is just a placeholder from the Moekana set.
The top left of the card will display the kanji. The top right would be an example of how that kanji would be used. The bottom of the illustration would show the English meaning of the kanji and below that we would show the "kun" and "on" readings.

I was considering showing the readings in romanized format but came to the conclusion that there is not much point learning kanji if you are not going to bother learn hiragana. Also, although Moekana was developed as a product aimed at foreigners learning Japanese, many Japanese parents bought Moekana for their kids to learn Hiragana and it even became the 2nd best selling anime product on Amazon Japan. Therefore, I've decided to keep the "kun" and "on" readings in hiragana - it caters for domestic folks in Japan and forces you to learn hiragana before you attempt kanji - because there is not much point learning kanji without hiragana!

The first pack of Moekanji will contain the 80 First Grade Kanji and is in development as we speak - will be out soon later on this year and once again be distributed by Good Smile Company.

If you got requests regarding Moekanji or any other Japanese learning medium that you would like to see then drop me a note in the comments!
