Currently in a small port town called Onagawa. This town has been completely devastated by the tsunami.
It's hard to believe what happened here.
I'm covering the relief efforts of the volunteer group Peace Boat in the areas most affected by the tsunami. While the earthquake did do structural damage, most was caused by the tsunami.
In these photos you can see a whole concrete building which was uprooted by the tsunami.
You can also see a 5 story building here which the tsunami reached.
A lot of the debris has been removed and all that remains here is to dismantle the rest of the buildings that remain and clean up the roads.
There is a foul stench of rotten fish in some areas but heard that it was even worse just after the tsunami.
I've got no internet connectivity where I'm staying so am posting these few photos from the iPhone for now and will tell you the full story of events that happened here and talk more about the volunteer efforts when I get back to Tokyo.
